1.Should more than the force of a touch be used to make a touch? Here is an opinion, you decide.Today, a defensive touch is being converted into a push, and also into a shove. Attackers are combating these defensive tactics by using the "fend/handoff", or the “bump”. These developments are dangerous in the mixed game, and to the image of Touch Football in general. Touch appeals to those who temporarily, or permanently, do not wish to play contact sports. Contact is not anticipated, or desired. Attackers are being pushed off the ball at the roll ball and are being penalised for not stepping over the ball correctly. The sport is called “Touch” for a reason, and the touch defines its identity and popularity. Touch requires great skill and not strength. Applying more force than just the touch should be discouraged at all levels in the game, do you agree? If you agree with the opinion type a Y (for yes) or if you disagree an N (for no), and your gender F (for female) or M (for male), and, or a P (for player), and, or a C (for coach), and, or a R (for referee), at the start of the comment section below the image here. 2.Should the defensive line retreat 8 metres, or 5 metres after the touch? Here is an opinion, you decide. Retreating 8 metres after the touch allows attackers more space and time to make individual, or collective plays, as the defence retreat and advance to defend. More options would be created to break the line while the defence retreats, or while it advances, and defenders would need to adopt new techniques to cope with new attacking strategies. These factors can only improve game development, and the spectacle that is Touch, to a wider audience. A prominent referee in Australia makes the following comment, “I think the rule makers should change the wording of “5 metres” to 7 or 8 metres because that’s generally what we hold. It’s just the nature of having a good, open free-flowing game. Players need room, and as long as the metres apart are consistent for both teams, I think we should make that change.” (Sweeney, 2008. Blowing the whistle on our top referees, The Hard Wrap, Issue 1, 2008). Some players, coaches and referees may agree with an 8 metres retreat by the defence after the touch, but what about you?
